Boater Term - Hull
The hull is the bottom part of a boat that sits in the water and provides buoyancy to keep a boat afloat. Fiberglass is the most common material used in the manufacturing of boat hulls, as it is lightweight, inexpensive and strong. The design of a hull affects the stability and speed of a boat as it moves through the water.
Displacement hulls, which are found on larger boats and yachts, are designed to push water out of the way as a boat moves forward, providing a more smooth, stable ride for passengers. Planing hulls, which are found on smaller boats, are designed to ride on top of the water, and are known more for their speed and maneuverability.
Featured Manufacturer - Pedrazzini
Ever wanted to feel like James Bond? Owning a Pedrazzini is a nice place to start. Pedrazzini is a Swiss luxury yacht builder that has built masterpieces in Europe for over 100 years. The manufacturer got its start when the company’s founder Augusto Pedrazzini moved from his home on Lake Como to Lake Zurich in 1906.
In an era of industrially manufactured boats, Pedrazzini’s craftsmanship is noteworthy, and has changed very little from its beginnings in the early 20th century. Almost every element is still made by hand, from the frame structure to the mahogany planking to the inlay work. The Pedrazzini shipyard still operates on Lake Zurich.
