Coordinates: 4.6827° S, 55.4804° E
Body of Water: Indian Ocean
Largest Marina: Eden Island Marina
Located off the coast of East Africa, the Seychelles is a group of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. Boaters will be most familiar with the Eden Island Marina, which is just east of the main island of Mahé and which accommodates yachts up to 115 meters in length. When at the marina, Boater Weekly recommends a SeyBrew at The Boardwalk Bar & Grill (@the_boardwalk_sez on Instagram).
Eden Island
One of our favorite islands in the Seychelles is La Digue, a small 10 sq-kilometer island northeast of Mahé. La Digue’s slower pace and laid-back charm is evident in its lack of cars, with bicycles the most common form on transportation on this majestic island. On the southwest coast of La Digue is Anse Source d’Argent, one of the most photographed beaches in the world.

Featured Manufacturer
Chris-Craft is one of the oldest boat builders in America. The company got its start in 1874 when the founder Christopher Columbus Smith built his first boat at the age of 13 in Algonac, Michigan. The company got its start mass producing runabouts, eventually becoming the largest manufacturer of mahogany powerboats in the world.
Chris-Craft Launch 27
Chris-Craft is owned by the RV manufacturer Winnebago Industries, which acquired the brand in 2018. Today, Chris-Craft produces a variety of models, from smaller day boats to larger overnight cruisers. Many Chris-Craft boats incorporate classical design elements from its older wooden boats, but with modern amenities.
Vintage Chris-Crafts from the 1950s such as the Capri, Continental and Sportsman are very popular collectible vessels and trade quite actively on the secondary market. The Capri was one of Chris-Craft’s most popular runabout models. Below is a 1957 Chris-Craft Capri 19 that just hit the market earlier this month!

Boat Loans
You don’t always have to have the full amount saved when you want to buy a boat. Boat loans help Boaters bridge the gap between money in the bank today, and money required to purchase a boat. The interest on boat loans is, similar to interest on a mortgage for a home, tax deductible in the U.S. New or used boats can be financed. In general, a boat must be less than twenty years old to be able to borrow against it.
Boat loan terms can be as short as two years and as long as twenty years, with many borrowers opting for a term between 5 and 10 years. Down payments are generally expected to be between 10% and 20%. A vessel will almost always need to be surveyed by a surveyor. The recent rise in interest rates has however made financing a boat more expensive, with rates for higher quality borrowers in the high single-digits today.
