Body of Water: Tyrrhenian Sea
Largest Marina: Marina Grande
Located off the coast of the Sorrento Peninsula in the Gulf of Naples, Capri is a small island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Marina Grande is the main port on the northern end of the island at the foot of Capri’s largest peak Monte Solaro. Boaters are able to access the main town of Capri by funicular, the cable railway system that transports visitors to the Piazzetta, the square at the top of the island.
Marina Grande
West of Marina Grande on the northern coast of Capri is the island’s famous Blue Grotto, a sea cave that is only accessible by boat. On the southern coast of Capri, Boaters must visit the Faraglioni Rocks, the iconic limestone rock formations shaped by erosion from the sea. From here, take in the views of the Faraglioni Rocks from Ristorante Da Ciro, before exploring Marina Piccola on the southern end of the island.

Featured Manufacturer
Did you want to know more about Rafe’s boat when you binge watched the Outer Banks on Netflix last week? The boat was a Lagoon 620, manufactured by the French yacht manufacturer Lagoon that specializes in the production of catamaran sailboats. Lagoon has built more than 6,000 catamarans since the company was founded in 1984. The Lagoon brand is owned Groupe Beneteau today.
Lagoon 620
While Lagoon also manufactures motor yachts, the brand is best known for its catamarans, with its boats ranging from 40 to 78 feet in length. The successor to the Lagoon 620 is the Lagoon SIXTY 5 catamaran. The Lagoon SIXTY 5 catamaran was designed by VPLP Design and the interior by Nauta Design, a Milan-based design studio. The SIXTY 5 catamaran can accommodate eight guests in four staterooms.

Monohull vs. Multihull
Monohull boats have a single hull, while multihull boats have two or more hulls. A catamaran, with two hulls connected by a deck, is a type of multihull boat. A trimaran yacht is a type of multihull boat with three hulls.

Catamaran sailboats tend to feel a bit more spacious, and are generally viewed as easier to handle than monohull sailboats. Catamarans are also able to sail in more shallow water, which makes them popular for exploring lagoons.
