Located in the South Pacific, Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia. Tahiti is home to French Polynesia’s capital city of Papeete and is a part of the Society Islands, an archipelago that includes Moorea and Bora Bora. On the west coast of Tahiti just south of the Fa'a'ā Airport, Marina Taina offers a variety of services and has 845 berths for yachts up to 60 meters in length.
Marina Taina
North of Marina Taina, Papeete is such a unique city, with influences from Polynesian and French culture. Southeast of Papeete, Boaters will find Tahiti Iti, the smaller of Tahiti’s two islands. Tahiti Iti is the less developed island, and is best known for the surf breaks at the legendary Teahupoʻo. Tautira’s black-sand beach is worth a visit before heading west to Moorea, an island we’ll explore in an upcoming Boater Weekly.

Mooring Lines
Securely mooring a boat is extremely important. Before diving in to mooring in greater detail in a future newsletter, it is important to be able to use the right terminology for lines that secure your boat to a fixed object, whether a dock or a buoy.
A bow line secures the boat from the bow cleat at the front of the boat, and stops the bow from drifting while tied to a dock or pier. Spring lines prevent a boat from moving aft (forward), and there are typically two spring lines used, a bow spring line and a stern spring line. Spring lines are connected to the center cleat.
A stern line prevents the back of the boat from moving from side to side, and drifting away from a dock. The stern line is connected to the stern cleat. Larger boats will require more lines, but this picture is a great visual for most Boaters.
